1. Overview

This policy explains how Recent Follow ("the App") and the Recent Follow web tool handle your data. Recent Follow is developed and operated by IGExport. With respect to Recent Follow, IGExport is your service provider and personal-data controller.

We built Recent Follow around a simple principle: we never ask for your Instagram password, and we never post, follow, unfollow, message, or change anything on your Instagram account. Most of what the app shows you comes from publicly visible information. If you choose to sign in, it can additionally show lists that your own account is already permitted to see.

3. Data we process

To deliver its features, Recent Follow processes the following:

  • Public Instagram information you look up: when you enter a public username, we retrieve publicly visible information about that account — such as its follows, followers, and the order in which they appear — and display it to you. The username you enter is sent to our servers so that the results can be fetched; it is not stored as a search history tied to you. This is the same information anyone can see when viewing a public profile.
  • Optional sign-in: some lists are only visible to an account that is already permitted to see them. If you choose to sign in, this goes through Instagram's own login flow and we never see or store your Instagram password. When you then request an export that requires it, your Instagram login credential is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our processing service so that the request can be made on your behalf. It is also held on your device so that an interrupted export can resume, and is removed once that export finishes.
  • Subscription and purchase records (Pro): handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never directly handle your payment card information. On Android, the purchase token is sent to our service to confirm that the purchase is valid.
  • Survey responses: if you answer the optional in-app survey about how you use exports, your answer is sent to us. If you pick the free-text option, the text you write is included.
  • Recent AI chat: if you use the optional Recent AI chat, the messages you type are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply. They go directly from the app to OpenAI and are not stored on our servers. The chat has no access to any Instagram data — only what you type is sent — so please do not enter personal information you would not want a third party to process.
  • Device identifiers: the app generates a random identifier, stores it on your device, and sends it with a survey response so that repeated answers from the same installation can be recognised. Our backend separately issues each installation an anonymous identity, used to authenticate requests and limit abuse. Neither is linked to your name or to your Instagram account.
  • Website analytics (website only): pages on igexport.com use Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement to understand how the site is used and how our advertising performs. These set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. The app itself contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

Recent Follow does not collect:

  • Your Instagram password (we never ask for it)
  • Your direct messages, private chats, or content from accounts you cannot already see
  • Your contacts, photos, or data from other apps on your device

4. How we use data

We process the data above only to:

  • Show you the follow/follower activity and chronological view you requested
  • Generate CSV exports you initiate
  • Confirm your purchase and maintain your subscription status
  • Improve the export experience, based on survey answers you choose to give
  • Generate replies in the Recent AI chat, from the messages you choose to send
  • Understand how the website is used and how our advertising performs (website only)
  • Keep the service stable and secure

We do not use your data for:

  • Selling or renting your personal data to third parties
  • Posting, following, unfollowing, messaging, or changing any setting on your Instagram account

5. Storage and security

  • Connections to our services use TLS-encrypted channels.
  • We retain only what is necessary to provide the service. Lookups are not used to build a profile of you.
  • Your Instagram login credential is not kept in our database. It is used for the export you asked for, and removed from your device once that export finishes.
  • Survey responses are retained so that we can analyse them. They are not linked to your name or to your Instagram account.
  • Payment handling and subscription records are managed by Apple and Google, not by us.

International transfers. We operate from Taiwan, and the providers listed in section 6 process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, it is transferred on the basis of the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard offered by the provider.

6. Third-party services

Recent Follow relies on the following services to operate:

  • Apple App Store / Google Play — app distribution, subscriptions, and payments.
  • Vercel — hosting for the website and our API. Handling a request involves connection metadata such as your IP address and browser or device identification string, which is retained in access logs.
  • Supabase — issues each installation an anonymous identity, used for server-side request authentication and rate limiting.
  • Upstash — stores the survey responses you choose to submit.
  • OpenAI — processes the messages you send in the Recent AI chat and generates the replies. OpenAI handles this data under its own API data-usage policy.
  • Expo (EAS) — distribution of, and checking for, application updates.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads — website only; measurement of visits and advertising performance.
  • Third-party data processing providers — used to retrieve publicly visible Instagram information and to run the list exports you request.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms.

7. Data retention and deletion

We keep each kind of data only as long as it is needed:

  • Instagram login credential — not retained by us. It is used for the export you asked for and removed from your device once that export finishes.
  • Survey responses — up to 24 months from submission, after which they are deleted.
  • Recent AI chat messages — not stored on our servers. They stay on your device only while the chat is open. OpenAI's retention of API requests is governed by its own policy.
  • Server access logs — retained by our hosting provider for a limited period for security and diagnostics.
  • Subscription and purchase records — for as long as your subscription is active, and afterwards only where we are required to keep them for accounting or tax purposes.
  • Information you look up — not stored as a personal profile of you.

You can request deletion of any data we hold about you by emailing support@igexport.com.

8. Children

Recent Follow is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact support@igexport.com.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.

12. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). Nothing in this section removes any right you have under the mandatory consumer or data-protection law of the country where you live.
