Cursive, but made of characters
The script alphabet in Unicode was added for mathematics — ℒ for a Lagrangian, ℛ for a relation — which is why the capitals look more ornate than the lowercase. It is also why a handful of them live in a different block entirely: B, E, F, H, I, L, M and R, plus lowercase e, g and o, are not where a simple calculation would put them.
Generators that skip that detail output an unassigned character, which renders as an empty box. If you have ever pasted cursive text and seen □ where a single letter should be, that is what happened.
Script versus bold script
Plain script is thin and elegant and disappears a little at bio size on a bright screen. Bold script holds up better on mobile and is the one most people end up using for a name.
Neither is searchable as normal text, so if people find you by typing your name, keep at least one plain version of it somewhere in the bio.
Frequently asked questions
Why is one letter a box instead of cursive?
That letter is either missing from the destination's fonts, or the generator that produced it used an unassigned code point. The styles here route around the known gaps, so a box usually means the device rendering it lacks the font coverage.
Does cursive text work in an Instagram display name?
Yes, and the display name is where it works best. Usernames are restricted to letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
Can I convert text that has accents in it?
Accented letters pass through unchanged — Unicode has no cursive é. Mixing them looks inconsistent, so it is usually better to drop the accent in the styled line or leave that line plain.
