How the glitch effect is built
Each letter gets combining diacritical marks stacked onto it — the accents normally used to write Vietnamese or transcribe phonetics. Piled several deep they spill above and below the line, which is the whole effect. The base letter is untouched, so the text is still technically readable and still copyable.
The result you see here is deterministic: the same input always produces the same output. That is deliberate — a generator that re-randomises on every keystroke gives you something you cannot get back once you have navigated away.
Light glitch is the one that survives
The heavier the stack, the more likely an app is to clip it. Instagram truncates tall marks at the line boundary in bios, and some Android keyboards refuse to render past a certain depth. Light glitch keeps the flicker while staying inside what almost everything draws correctly.
If the text has to be understood — a handle, a link, a date — glitch it lightly or not at all. The marks make it hard for screen readers and, in comment sections, heavy glitch is a common trigger for automated spam filters.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between glitch text and zalgo?
Same technique, different dose. Glitch keeps one or two marks per letter so the words still read normally; zalgo keeps stacking until the text bleeds into the lines above and below. There is a dedicated zalgo page if that is what you are after.
Why does it look different after I paste it somewhere?
Every app decides for itself how far to draw marks beyond the line. The characters are intact — what changes is how much of the stack is clipped.
Can glitch text get a post flagged?
Heavily corrupted text is sometimes treated as an evasion pattern by automated filters, since it is also used to slip banned words past them. A light glitch on a decorative line is not usually an issue.
