Why zalgo gets cut off in some places
Zalgo is not a font. It is ordinary letters with dozens of combining marks attached, and those marks are drawn outside the line box. Apps that clip to the line — Instagram bios are the strictest common example — will cut the tops and bottoms off, which is why the same string looks dramatic in a Discord message and half-erased in a bio.
Nothing is lost when that happens: the characters are all still in the string, so copying it out again gives you the full version. It is purely a drawing limit at the destination.
Choosing an intensity you can actually post
Full zalgo is best used on a single word, where the surrounding blank space gives the marks somewhere to go. A whole zalgo paragraph mostly overlaps itself and becomes a grey smear.
Character count is the other constraint that catches people out. Every mark counts as its own character, so a nine-letter word at full intensity can easily exceed a hundred characters — enough to blow past an Instagram bio's 150-character limit on its own.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my zalgo text using up so much of the character limit?
Each combining mark is a separate character. At the highest intensity a single letter can carry ten or more, so a short word becomes a long string. Drop to a lighter level if you are near a limit.
Is zalgo text harmful to anyone's device?
No. It is normal text with a lot of accents. Very long strings can slow older text renderers down, but nothing here goes near the lengths that cause that.
Can I get the plain text back?
Not from the zalgo string itself in this tool — keep your original in the input box, it is never overwritten. Clearing the box is the only thing that removes it.
